ELLIOTT

R. Elliott Katz, a sculptor from Cabot, Vermont, will take over for Lars Fisk as 2008 resident studio manager for the Seven Below Artist In Residence Program. In addition to taking on administrative and leadership responsibilities for the program, Elliott will continue his work on a series of cast concrete sculptures for his upcoming show, "Cultivate," with the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in June 2008.

Charmaine Wheatley

CHARMAINE

Charmaine Wheatley depicts everything from sunsets to eavesdropped conversations in watercolors, and will work on a Burlington area-based comic book during her residency.

Haisi Hu

HAISI

Haisi Hu, a native of China, works with narrative videos by using animated puppets, toys and mannequins. She creates armatures for her characters and elaborated sets. The New York State Council for the Arts supported her last feature-length video, "Once Upon A Lifetime."

Meghan Gordon

CHARMAINE

Meghan Gordon received her BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design. Her work explores the world of period rooms and their relationship to painting.

Wylie Sophia Garcia

WYLIE

Wylie Sophia Garcia is currently enrolled in an MFA program with Massachusetts College of Art and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. In September 2008, she will defend her thesis and graduate. During her residency she will complete TopographyVIII, an epic journey into the expansive possibilities of her thesis, which is about creating a physical and psychological map of her location, place, and space -- the journey back to familiarity and comfort. It will be entirely hand stitched, embroidered, and embellished with trapunto. When completed, it will be installed at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum for two weeks at the end of September.

Matt Bollinger

MATT

Matt Bollinger received his BFA in painting and creative writing from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. His paintings and drawings depict fictional social groups who congregate at music shows, in art collectives, or at karaoke bars. Within these contexts he attempts to examine specific characters in relation to the group. Informed by his interest in film melodrama, horror movies, and experimental music, the resulting narratives are like dream-versions of real events, which make emotional, as opposed to logical, sense.

In return, Mr. Fisk will receive financial support, lodging, and studio space at The Barn.

Lars Fisk studied art and art history as an undergraduate at the University of Vermont and Temple University in Rome, Italy, and completed a graduate degree at Columbia University. His works have been exhibited at the Fleming Museum, Burlington, VT; the Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, NH; and as a part of the permanent collection of the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA. Klara Hobza

KLARA

Continuing a body of work "Nay, I'll Have A Starling," Klara will explore the transportation and migration of birds. Through ornithology, she reflects on subjects such as immigration and the human tendency to anthropomorphize animals.

William Moore

WILLIAM

A sculptor of marble and clay, Bill will use Vermont and Italian marbles to continue exploring abstract forms.

Jake Rifkin

JAKE

A member of Burlington's E1 Studio Collective, Jake will use wire to build sculptures and installations. He describes his work as "an interconnected wire tapestry" with a multitude of small shapes encased with larger ones to create a dynamic structure.

Carlos Ferguson

CARLOS

A kinetic sculptor and videographer, Carlos will continue to build his interactive dioramas and kinetic sculptures as well as outfit his Airstream trailer as a mobile projection pod.

Josh Reiman

JOSH

A cross-disciplinary artist, Josh will be working on a large-scale earthwork, which will doubly serve as the set for an ornate performance, recorded through color photography.

Anna Schachte

ANNA

Collecting imagery from an imagined "Great American Road Trip" and the desire to picture the future, Anna merges illustrative and abstract techniques in paintings inspired by the physical and social landscapes of the US.
