On April 17, 1998, soon after Phish's infamous "Island Tour", and just before entering Bearsville Studios to begin work on The Story of the Ghost, Trey appeared at Higher Ground in Winooski, VT fronting a band of local musicians calling themselves "Eight Foot Fluorescent Tubes." In the course of their one set performance, the band debuted early versions of "First Tube", "Sand", "Mozambique" and "Last Tube", which would become staples of Trey's live repertoire in the years that followed.
