The current Trey Anastasio Band is backed by the rhythm section of Tony Hall, one of New Orleans' finest bass players, with longtime collaborator Jeff Sipe on drums. Trey and Jeff have a longstanding musical history, dating back to the early days of Phish circa 1990-1993 when they toured almost exclusively with the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Since those days of Phish and the ARU sharing the stage, Trey and Jeff have been looking to reconnect and both are very excited to be playing together again. Old friend Ray Paczkowski (keyboards) completes the core quartet with fellow Vermonters Jennifer Hartswick and Christina Durfee on backing vocals. Trey welcomed back the original TAB horns for his December 2006 shows, featuring Dave "The Truth" Grippo on Alto/Baritone Sax, Peter Apfelbaum on Tenor/Baritone Sax and Flute, and Russell Remington on Tenor Sax/Flute along with newcomer and Santana Alumni Jeff Cressman on Trombone. Taking it up one more notch for the New Year's Run, world renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista came aboard to complete the 11-piece band. Like much of Trey's work, his band's sound is hard to define in conventional terms but it's rooted in high-energy rock and roll. Trey's current band recalls the deep grooves and intricate, jazzy horn lines of the 10-piece meshed with the song-driven rock of the 70 Volt Parade. They interweave Trey's trademark compositions and arrangements with well-crafted songs that, when played live, showcase his strong command of improvisation and exploration. The result is simultaneously cerebral and danceable. Check out the A/V Room for some live audio clips.
